What does the Malaysian Standard for Tongkat Ali specify?
MS 2409:2011, published by the Department of Standards Malaysia with SIRIM, covers the freeze-dried water extract of Tongkat Ali roots. It sets composition ranges for the extract, including eurycomanone content of roughly 0.8–1.5%, alongside minimum levels for polysaccharides, protein and glycosaponin.
Two things follow from that, and they matter commercially:
- "Tongkat Ali" on its own means nothing on a specification. Root powder, crude extract and a standardised freeze-dried water extract are three different materials at three different prices.
- Eurycomanone percentage is the number to ask for. It is the marker compound the standard is written around, and it is what a certificate of analysis should report.

Settle the claim before formulation, not after. Deciding the marketing message first and checking it later is the recurring cause of a reformulation.
